@catsprotection for day 28 of .y #30daychallenge sharing the work of a great charity each day, the cats protection have helped me trap and neuter some feral cats a couple of whom are still with me "From humble beginnings in 1927, Cats Protection has grown to become the UK's leading feline welfare charity. We help around 200,000 cats and kittens every year through our network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 36 centres. Our work doesn’t stop there, however: we also provide an array of cat care information via our publications, help and advice section and National Information Line; promote the benefits of neutering to prevent unwanted litters from being born and becoming the abandoned cats of tomorrow and seek to educate people of all ages about cats and their care."

This is a group within a larger charity @cornwallwildlifetrust and about the work that they do for badgers. For my #30daychallenge charity a day... Vaccination of badgers against TB is gaining ground in Cornwall We have been working on the issue of badgers and TB in cattle for several years, with many groups including scientists from the Zoologicial Society of London (ZLS), farmers, landowners, vets and academics. We keep hearing how ‘no-one wants to be culling badgers’. The only way this is likely to happen is if vaccination is rolled out widely as an alternative. We have received overwhelming support for our Badger Vaccination Appeal, showing how powerfully people feel about finding an alternative to culling. We support badger vaccination as the best option for Cornwall and have begun our vaccination programme on our North Cornwall nature reserves, as well as coordinating the mid-Cornwall vaccination programme. We work with farmers, vets, academics and others as part of the Cornwall TB Eradication Group, a group initiated by Defra. They are also carrying out blood tests to assess the effectiveness of vaccination. These trail-blazing farmers in mid-Cornwall are asking to vaccinate badgers on their land, and paying towards the vaccine and running costs. We have raised funds to buy extra cage-traps and cover other expenses so we can vaccinate across the whole area. We believe badgers have a place in our countryside, and want to extract badgers from the bovine TB problem. This science-led vaccination programme is essential to provide an alternative to culling. #stopthecull #protectwildlife #supportscience

#30daychallege researching a charity a day... my bird of the month was inspired by my local buzzards but also a beautiful bird at the @cornishbirdofpreycentre "At the Cornish Birds of Prey Centre, we are passionate about providing a caring home for mistreated, unwanted, injured and neglected birds of prey whether from private owners or from the wild. Many commercial centres breed and sell birds for profit to fund their organisation. This goes entirely against our ethos and only assists in creating a bigger problem. In recent years the influence of movies, media and financially lucrative markets has increased the number of unwanted birds. Our funding comes entirely from our generous visitors, sponsors and donors whose ticket purchases and contributions help us to keep the centre running all year round. We provide a permanent, caring safe haven for each and every bird or animal currently in our care now and in the future. Our aim, and the purpose of the centre is to educate our visitors, allow them to learn more about our magnificent and beautiful birds and provide a relaxed, informed and fun environment. Our hope is that this knowledge will prevent people impulsively buying birds of prey as pets and to enable them to understand the commitment that owning a bird of prey requires. We invite you to come and support the centre and the work we do, experience our fantastic flying displays, and learn more about these amazing animals." They are a community interest company.

#30daychallenge researchins and sharing the work of a charity each day...today the @woodlandtrust with todays marches and strikes this seems appropriate I like to know what I can do... "Trees are warriors in the battle against climate change. They absorb carbon, fight flooding, reduce pollution, nurture wildlife and make landscapes more resilient. Reducing our carbon emissions will never be enough. It’s vital we grow a UK-wide patchwork of trees and woods – not just by planting, but also through natural regeneration. The woods, hedges and green spaces we create buffer existing habitats, tackle climate change and reverse wildlife decline – all at the same time. Help us fight for the future of the planet by being one in a million pledging to plant a tree The Woodland Trust is leading The Big Climate Fightback. Take part in one of our tree planting events taking place across the country on 30 November 2019 during National Tree Week, buy a tree to plant yourself at home or make a donation so we can plant one for you. The time to act is now. We need one million people to join the Big Climate Fightback. Because #EveryTreeCounts

#30daychallege researching and sharing the work of a charity a day, today @suffolkowls "Established as a registered charity in 2001, the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary is based at Stonham Aspal in Suffolk, where it operates a comprehensive facility for the care & rehabilitation of owls from the region, and the promotion of owl conservation throughout the UK and beyond. The Sanctuary is open to the public all year round where it maintains the following services as the beneficiary of public donations. A Raptor Hospital for Injured Wild Owls & Other Birds of Prey The Owl & Raptor Hospital at S.O.S. is fully equipped for the care and treatment of the many injured wild owls & other birds of prey which are brought into the Sanctuary every year. Many of these can be given a recuperative overnight pick-me-up before being re-released into the wild shortly thereafter. Owls that are more seriously injured but stand a good chance of mid- to long-term recovery are given medical aid & sometimes surgery, and are then allowed the space & time to fully recuperate in one of the secluded flight recovery aviaries at the Sanctuary before returning to the wild. Regrettably, injured owls that are brought into the Sanctuary but are professionally judged to be beyond the pale, with no hope of meaningful quality of life, are euthanased by a vet. A Hack-Back Team which Safely Introduces Recovered Owls back to the Wild SOS also receives a number of nestlings and these require specialised handling from the Hack-Back team, who also manage the careful rehabilitation of birds who have been at the Sanctuary for a long period of time recuperating. A temporary hack box (an enlarged nest box with a mesh-covered outdoor area) is sited in a suitable location from where these birds will gradually be reintroduced to their natural environment."

#30daychallenge researching a charity a day today @theraptorfoundation. "At the Raptor Foundations, our aims have always been, firstly to rescue, rehabilitate and return injured birds of prey back to the wild and secondly to protect and preserve them through education and conservation. By visiting us, you are supporting the very important work that we do and helping birds of prey across the world. The Raptor Foundation has always been committed to contributing to the conservation of birds of prey and biodiversity both at home and abroad. Around the world falconry has sometimes been at odds with conservation goals. Historically, many raptors have been taken from the wild. However, falconry is now strictly regulated and falconers have become pioneers in developing conservation strategies and fighting for legislation to preserve wild birds of prey. Falconry centers play an important role in conserving wild populations. Captive individuals provide an insurance policy against wild species extinctions and they can contribute towards maintaining viable wild populations by captive breeding programs. We are proud to play a part of the continuing conservation of raptors that has allowed several of our native British species to recover from near extinction. Primarily the centre functions to educate the public about birds of prey and raise awareness of these beautiful animals, their fascinating lifestyles and the problems they are facing in their natural habitats. In doing this, the plight of birds of prey becomes more important to the general public and therefore the government and more resources can become available for conservation management and preventing persecution of wild birds. Our veterinary facilities and expertise allow us to take in injured birds with the aim of returning them to the wild."

It appears regularly on TV, radio and other media, both in the UK and internationally, has received awards from RSPCA, International Fund for Animal Welfare, media and TV and is honoured to have Chris Packham as its long standing Patron. We are also very pleased to welcome writer, film maker and wildlife campaigner Anneka Svenska as a Patron of The Fox Project. A strong supporter of the fox – Anneka has become a familiar speaker at events across the UK aimed at strengthening the Hunting Act and keeping foxhunting illegal"
