The lovely Jackdaw group were back again this evening for a snack... they seem to announce their arrival as the fly over this is an ink drawing I made many years ago but I have always like the way the ink made just the right marks for me 🖤🖤🖤

I only have this inquisitive Herring Gull painting left of my first set of paintings for my ebook. This was Gull in St Ives that I had a conversation with, I maintained eye contact t with it so it kept its distance whilst I ate my lunch. Their intelligence and understanding is equal to and probably easily surpasses that of a dog... and they are long lived oldest recorded 32 years... they learn fast to exploit our bad habits... and that is part of the reason we conflict because they give us no leeway when we mistakenly (?) Dispose if our rubbish lazily if we imagine if they are equivalent to Bears in Canada we would soon be more cautious! You can read more about them in my July ebook now available for a small donation to my fundraising of £2.50 All on my website #herringgull #redlist #education #humananimalrelationship #artforwildlife #gullresearch #gullprotectors #wildliferehab

Because it's been all about rescuing pigeons with @westcornwallwildlife this last few days here is a Wood Pigeon in flight 😊

via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CEhfZT9nMwK/

This poor young wood pigeon came to me today for a short stay it had been attacked by another bird, they need quite specialist care like most wildlife. So it was a bit like a military manoeuvre today arranging transport and he best care for it, many people at @westcornwallwildlife have full aviaries with injured birds coming in all the time, so this one is now in the very safe hands of Nikki at @littlestwildlifehotel_cornwall

via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CEheHTwn9zu/

Here is another corner of my studio all quite tidy now...and especially not bad as it was full of birds all summer 😁 for @westcornwallwildlife

via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CEgxFkjH2u4/

Tonight's visitor a young wood pigeon the red glow is my heat lamp which does a good job, but they are not thermostatically controlled. I am a woman who likes to be in control!!! 🤣 . . . . . Hence https://ift.tt/3hJC296

Another tiny landscape painting reminding me again of one of my favourite RS Thomas poems the Bright Field...when the sun seems to just shine on one field ☀️ I have seen the sun break through to illuminate a small field for a while, and gone my way and forgotten it. But that was the pearl of great price, the one field that had treasure in it. I realize now that I must give all that I have to possess it. Life is not hurrying on to a receding future, nor hankering after an imagined past. It is the turning aside like Moses to the miracle of the lit bush, to a brightness that seemed as transitory as your youth once, but is the eternity that awaits you.

I am hoping to take part in an exhibition with the @nsanewlyn in the autumn called the edge of darkness... these paintings relate to one of the most beautiful but dangerous parts of our coast. Al'so where I released our Herring gulls into the world a wonderful but very hard time for me... I think it is about opposites existing in one place and one person...the unresolved dicotomy that I experience all too often, these preliminary sketches will be available to see at @@openstudioscornwall. . . . #openstudioscornwall #birdscapes #abstractlandscape #cornwalllandscapepainting

@openstudioscornwall prep sorting out some very small landscapes with tiny birds for my browsers... so much still to do 😬 and so little time. It is very interesting to have all my recent (past 2 years) work in one place to see how it has shifted but also to see the threads of wildlife, human animal relationship, stories and poetry remaining as overriding and endlessly interesting themes

via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CEUNv3IH6O7/

What a great morning with Mercedes @fineartcomms wonderful inspiring conversations about art and life thank you 😊 Thanks also to @cultivatorcornwall

via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CET7he6nKsI/

Here is another one I love that ochre in the foreground which is common in the fading grasses.. its was about time I got on to these new birdscapes all inspired by the north cliffs and our resident sea birds.. hopefully you can see the gulls in this one, it may be finished not sure yet 😊 hopefully it will be ready for @openstudioscornwall at the weekend #openstudioscornwall #birdscapes #abstractlandscape #cornwalllandscapepainting

via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CESCko-HbVS/

This one is a bit better... one of my new birdscapes inspired by the north cliffs here in cornwall and gulls... hopefully you can see the gulls in this one, I may make more of them but just letting it rest overnight for now 😊 hopefully it will be ready for @openstudioscornwall #openstudioscornwall #birdscapes #abstractlandscape #cornwalllandscapepainting

Painting the north coast, inspired by my favourite birdscapes ... not happy with them but it's all works in progress atm...and distracting me from @openstudioscornwall prep 😬

My studio is now starting to get a little more organised, well bits of it anyway...it has been a long time since it had to be step up.to receive visitors and has taken rather longer than expected 😁 I am sure I will be ready for the 29th andvthecstart of @openstudioscornwall #openstudioscornwall #openstudio

I have just been for a wander around the fields... the landscape is changing again the colours are warming...suddenly it is starting to look like autumn is just around the corner... It left me wanting to paint it again...with gulls as well as crows as I seem to have more passinv through since the aviary went up...

🤣🤣🤣 I think my planters got away from me this year!

via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CD_r4jInw6A/

Oh dear not long now... I better start clearing out the studio... it will take me 2 weeks just to tidy up 😔 I am going to have a huge studio sale I have so much work that I just store, pieces made whilst teaching etc. Work that will never be exhibited etc....

It's that time of year again here where the young Buzzard calls and calls whilst the adults are presumably trying to train it to make it's own way in the world...

The tell tale signs that Walter and Desmond have been "sharing" Spoonies food, turmeric make up! 🥰

Jackdaw walking linocut with monoprint... I haven't posted much about the jackdaws I have visiting, there are 5 4 youngsters who were raised by another volunteer and 1 adult who had lost his tail feathers. As they are very social creatures I am happy to say that all the local jackdaws come visiting and sit with them on the roof by their aviary... they are having a mini moult at the moment and will be released soon after but probably not from here... I try not to interact with them and they hate to be stared at so I dont feel I know them well but as with all the birds I will miss them when they ho but be happy for them at the same time 🖤🥰🖤 . . . . . #linocut.#printmaking #blockprinting #monoprint #urbanbird #contemporaryart #birdart #birdartist #wildbird #contemporaryprintmaking #get_imprinted #ukprintmakers .#magpieart #printmaker #oneofforiginal #jackdaw

Here is another painting from this series which started during lockdown, inspired by the constant but ever changing landscape around my home. Always with a few crows or rural gulls 😊 Many of these will be exhibited at @openstudioscornwall at he end of the month and can be seen in the meantime on my website. https://ift.tt/2rM5c2i

Flying south...although these are crows and jackdaws, as things in the bird world start to shift to thoughts about migration, we are hoping all @westcornwallwildlife volunteers little migratory birds will be fit enough to make their way south... Looking forward to sharing some of this work at @openstudioscornwall in a few weeks

via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CDvjhJnHzOt/

Never mind hiding behind Walter what has Desmond been up to? 🤣🤣🤣 secretly eating Spoonies food with added Turmeric I believe!

A beautiful full moon tonight... "August’s full Moon was traditionally called the Sturgeon Moon because the giant sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this part of summer. Other names for this Full Moon include ”Full Green Corn Moon,” signaling that the corn was nearly ready for harvest, “Wheat Cut Moon,” “Moon When All Things Ripen,” and ”Blueberry Moon.”" Does anyone know any other names for the august full moon . . . . . #fullmoon #mooncycles #lunarcalender #tawnyowlandthemoon #owlpainting #tawnyowlpainting #owlandthemoon #sturgeonmoon

Puffin on paper... I love these little creatures, I found them totally mesmerising when I visited @skomer_island a d @skokholm_island. In Cornwall for the @westcornwallwildlife because of our wonderful long coastline we are moving from nestling and fledgling rescues to seabirds often caught in stormy seas so we need to start stocking up on sand eels and whitebait. I am still fundraising and spending all my money on wildlife rehab...what else can i do they need help 😍 #puffin #seabirds #birds #painting #wildlifeartist #wildlife #britishbirds #endangered #sea #flight #BigArtBoost #thedailysketch #seascape #cliffs #painting #art #southwest #paint #artist #waves #instartist #instartwork #puffinsofinstagram #wildlifecornwall #wildliferescue

All ready for release next week and looking fetching in their colour rings... if you ever see a ringed bird you can report it via the @btobirds website and to @westcornwallwildlife they all ours have a silver ring and this large blue ring starting with a W because they are part of an interesting research project... they may turn up anywhere so we would all love to hear about them. #colourringedbirds #birdringing #gullresearch #phdresearch #redlistbird #herringullresearch #herringgull

Looking after animals is always rewarding but also I find very hard emotionally...it is not possible for me to remain emotionally detached, whilst they are by no means attached to me I am to them. There have been so many successes this summer but many tragedies too, it is the way of things that often by the time a wild animal gets rescued they are very vulnerable and fragile or very poorly...

July has been spent caring for wildlife I am currently caring for 29 birds which have come to me from @westcornwallwildlife all will be released to fulfil their wild lives as soon as they can but in the meantime if you can help our network of volunteers to rescue, feed, treat and care for the animals that come to us all it would be much appreciated. I feel blessed to have been able to help raising funds through my painting sales offering time, space and care , many others are doing the same...there is a link to their website in my profile or via my fundraising page 🖤🖤🖤https://ift.tt/3fmqGXv 🖤🖤🖤

A clattering of Jackdaws plus 1 magpie all juveniles... the release time for corvids is not until autumn so they will be with me for a little while yet...keeping them entertained is a challenge as they are very intelligent. Crows are too intelligent to be kept in cages, no matter how large that cage is, I think... so I look forward also to the day that the other carrion crow (jackdaws and magpies) spending time with me can also be released I love to paint Crows all those rainbow shades of black to play with 😍 50 x 70 cm on Canvas. .. #wildliferescue #helpwildlife #crowart #crow #openstudio #openstudios #openstudioscornwall #studiostories

via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CDLjrVcHdII/

I definitely need to have a crow day in honour of my release for @westcornwallwildlife yesterday. I have never been interested in keeping birds in cages but find them fascinating to observe so this has been a great experience, knowing that whilst they are caged for their own care ultimately they will live a free life on their own terms. However observing corvids has to be done covertly as they hate to be looked at so I have done plenty of hiding behind sheets and doors so that I could properly check their behaviour and health 🦅🖤😂😍🖤🦅 This is my crow ebook with lots more crow information on my website
