November 30 Day Challenge - last few days!
Day 28, Birds I would like to meet...all rare or extinct, on the 30th of November it is not only the last day of my 30 day challenge it is also the Remembrance Day for Lost Species, November 30th, I have shared this on some of today's photos so apologies if you have seen it but I feel that on 'Black Friday' it was particularly poignant, Chris Jordan is talking about the Atol Albatross for his Midway Journey project "For me, kneeling over their carcasses is like looking into a macabre mirror. These birds reflect back an appallingly emblematic result of the collective trance of our consumerism and runaway industrial growth. Like the albatross, we first-world humans find ourselves lacking the ability to discern anymore what is nourishing from what is toxic to our lives and our spirits. Choked to death on our waste, the mythical albatross calls upon us to recognize that our greatest challenge lies not out there, but in here." ~cj, Seattle, February 2011

November 30 Day Challenge - Day 28 - Only 2 Painting days left! Today it is all about scarcity and eyebrows! Birds I would like to meet...sadly I will never meet the Great Auk as it became extinct when the last 2 confirm birds were killed on the 3rd July 1844. I hope you like my little flock of 5 Black Grouse, Capercaillie, Stone Curlew, Storm Petrel and Great Auk. The Atol Albatross should also be here but he didn't quite make it. Did you know that the Bar-headed Goose is one of the world's highest-flying birds, having been seen flying across Mount Makalu – the fifth highest mountain at 8,481 m and apparently seen over Mount Everest – 8,848 m, I was once told that they take the trouble to fly over the Himalayas because they pre-date them and the Himalayas where much smaller when they began using this route, I am not sure if this is true but I like it. I painted a Bar headed goose today in my 30 Day Challenge but this is one I painted a while ago as an icon.
