Also out and about today... grey seals just a few... I estimated over 100 one very young white at the far side (top) near the rock wall gull devouring something bloody close by so it may have been just born... always a delight to see them ❤❤❤

Out and about today, visited a local country park where there is one of the largest rockerys in cornwall... I love the call of Rooks... too many people for me and lots of over feeding but the rooks like it because they get fed...so do the mobs of squirrels, geese, ducks, swans, black headed gulls and lots of rats πŸ˜‚ . . .. . . . . #linocut.#printmaking #blockprinting #monoprint #reliefprinting #lino #utbanbird #farmlandbirds #contemporaryart #narrative #cornwallart #wildlifeart #birdart #birdartist #wildbird #artiststudio #art #illustration #mixedmedia #wildlife #naturalworld #mixedmedia #contemporaryprintmaking #humananimalrelationship #get_imprinted #ukprintmakers .#rook #printmaker #oneofforiginal #anthrozoology

I am delighted to hear that the first print run of #red67 has now sold out.. but still saddened that it has to exist, I must do a flick through of it for you all soon... I feel very honoured to have been asked to take part and submit artwork for the RED SIXTY SEVEN book and well done to everyone else involved ( @_BTO & @red67book @99_birds ) #bto #rspb #yolobirder #redlist You can still order here for the next print run.... https://ift.tt/2RpCayt for more ) The launch is on February 14th. . You can pre-order the book and purchase other merchandise from the website below now. Red Sixty Seven is a collaboration between 67 authors and 67 artists with a single goal: to raise funds to support conservation work aiming to reverse the declines of our most at-risk birds. Contributors include Chris Packham, Ann Cleeves, Samuel West, Natalie Bennett, David Lindo, Gill Lewis, Darren Woodhead, Carry Akroyd, Jane Smith and Patrick Barkham. All of the profits from the sale of this book will be donated to BTO and RSPB to further their work on Red-listed birds. Red Sixty Seven is 67 love letters to our most vulnerable species, each beautifully illustrated by some of the best wildlife artists around, showcasing a range of styles as varied as the birds in these pages. Our hope is that the book will bring the Red List to a wider audience whilst raising funds for the charities working to help the birds most at need. My bird was the Balearic Shearwater, I have a particularly soft spot for Shearwaters (although Manx) having spent some time on Skoholm and Skomer Islands,  we have them visiting our waters around Cornwall. To support 67 redlisted species, It is a collaboration in 67 beautiful illustrated love letters to our most threatened birds @Red67book #Red67 #bto #rspb #yolobirder #redlist #illustratedbook #illustration https://ift.tt/2RpCayt

Great post @elliegregor very proud of you as you know... for everything you do as well as @sas_whodareswins • • • • • • #repost “The most important thing is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle” I was medically withdrawn from SAS WDW after collapsing when my body started to shut down due to Hypothermia. I cannot even begin to tell you how cold I was, the interrogation was fine, the stress positions were manageable but the cold running through my bones was relentless agony. Touching the stone cold wall was unbearable, I’d lost all the feeling in my feet and I kept passing in and out of consciousness. I don’t remember the moment I passed out, all I remember is being un hooded and seeing the doctor in front of me. Prior to interrogation we’d been captured in the water and taken on a 1-2 hour speed boat trip back to base in soaked clothes. By the time we reached land I was colder than I’d ever been before. We then had to sit/stand in wet clothes in freezing temperatures for hours, I’m not surprised that my body gave up. I’m so proud that my mental strength didn’t waver. It took me actually passing out to end my journey. You hear me say, that I wanted to pass the course but if my best isn’t good enough then that’s ok. Thank you to the DS @jay__morton , @jason_carl_fox , @ollie.ollerton , @billingham22b @antmiddleton for one hell of a challenge. Thank you to all the incredible recruits who made the course bearable with their impeccable banter and thank you to everyone who has messaged me and supported me throughout this process. I hope I have inspired some of you. Onwards to my next adventure. Today marks Imbolc and St Brides Day ... Imbolc lies half way between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. It is traditionally a festival honouring Brigid, she became woven into the Christian church as St Bridget. She is a Goddess of healing, poetry and smithcraft, Goddess of Fire, of the Sun and of the Hearth, she brings fertility to the land and its people and is closely connected to midwives and new-born babies. So why Oystercatchers... To the Gaels this bird is an emblem of St. Bride, who carried one in each hand. Legend has her arriving on the shores of South Uist with an oystercatcher on each wrist. When she was becalmed at sea, oystercatchers flew to her boat and by the beating of their wings, filled the sails of the boat so that she could sail safely to land. In Gaelic, the Oystercacher is called the Guide of St Bride, as she was supposed to send the birds to guide sailors to safety. It bears the form of a cross on its plumage as it once covered Christ with sea-weed when his enemies pursued him. . . . #imbolc #stbridget #oystercatchers #stbride #anthrozoology #celticmythology #irishfolklore #paganfestival #pagangodessoffire #pagangoddessbrigid #linocut #printmaking #monotype #reliefprinting #inthestudio #lino #contemporaryart  #art #illustration #contemporaryprintmaking #humananimalrelationship #get_imprinted #ukprintmakers #narrative
