Back for a visit again...on an atmospheric morning. W535 waiting for me when I went out to feed the remaining few in my care. I hope you are still looking out for our (@westcornwallwildlife) released colour ringed Gulls they have a big plastic blue ring with a code starting W the ones I have released have all be in the 500-550 number range but we are interested to hear about any of them as they are part of a PHD research project with Exeter Uni.

Jackdaws caught in the act bringing their new friends to breakfast.... I released 4 Jackdaws and now have a group of 7 and 2 magpies to support 🤣 it's all good, I feed the birds anyway... it's only a bit of supplementary food and they are all welcome.

For me it was lovely thank you to everyone who visited virtually or physically 🥰 #Repost @openstudioscornwall • • • • • • And with that, we say farewell to @openstudioscornwall for another year, and what an amazing event it was, despite all the obstacles in our path! It was a subdued affair for some participants, for others it was intensive; either way it was markedly different from previous years. As always, the event provided a chance to make new acquaintances and reunite with former ones, for conversational exchange and human connection, for moments of inspiration, an opportunity to rethink one’s process and work, to secure commissions, and to wave visitors off having made a sale or two. For visitors to gain privileged access to private studios, flick through sketchbooks, handle works in progress, watch an artist at work and question them about what drives their creations. At a time of social restriction and isolation with people unable to access many arts and cultural venues, this year more than ever, it felt vital that we find a way of connecting people together in this way, of facilitating visitors in safely crossing the threshold into another person’s artistic space of production and into different imaginative worlds. Congratulations to all who took part in Open Studios Cornwall 2020, either virtually, physically or both, and many thanks to all those who visited! Thank you for your patience, resilience, and hard work in making your studio spaces safe and visitors feel welcomed. We hope to see you all again next year for 2021!

Whilst on the subject of Owls here is a Tawny Owl... this one called dark wings. I often hear them calling in the winter.

This one is on my studio wall today for @openstudioscornwall but I thought I would tell its story. I was lighting a fire in a metal incinerator and suddenly became aware of a presence through the smoke, just sat on the wall looking through the smoke... I quote this poem a lot... but it was held in my mind as I painted as was my encounter... The Owl Who Comes The owl who comes through the dark to sit in the black boughs of the apple tree and stare down the hook of his beak, dead silent, and his eyes, like two moons in the distance, soft and shining under their heavy lashes- like the most beautiful life- is thinking of nothing as he watches and waits to see what might appear, briskly, out of the seamless, deep winter- out of the teeming world below- and if I wish the owl luck, and I do, what am I wishing for that other soft life, climbing through the snow? What we must do, I suppose is to hope the world keeps its balance: what we are to do, however, with our hearts waiting and watching-truly I do not know. The lovely Jackdaw group were back again this evening for a snack... they seem to announce their arrival as the fly over this is an ink drawing I made many years ago but I have always like the way the ink made just the right marks for me 🖤🖤🖤

I only have this inquisitive Herring Gull painting left of my first set of paintings for my ebook. This was Gull in St Ives that I had a conversation with, I maintained eye contact t with it so it kept its distance whilst I ate my lunch. Their intelligence and understanding is equal to and probably easily surpasses that of a dog... and they are long lived oldest recorded 32 years... they learn fast to exploit our bad habits... and that is part of the reason we conflict because they give us no leeway when we mistakenly (?) Dispose if our rubbish lazily if we imagine if they are equivalent to Bears in Canada we would soon be more cautious! You can read more about them in my July ebook now available for a small donation to my fundraising of £2.50 All on my website #herringgull #redlist #education #humananimalrelationship #artforwildlife #gullresearch #gullprotectors #wildliferehab
